Ink Paintings - Covid
Painted to make sense of the physical and emotional ramifications of COVID, these
square compositions (inks on canvas), evolved as I grappled with the pandemic trying to
make sense of the physical and emotional ramifications of this new human illness.
Patterns, first built and then broken, feature in each of the pieces in the series. The tug
between nature itself and human interventions into the natural world are paralleled by
the tension between accidental, spontaneous, gestural and immediate marks and marks
that are considered, deliberate, meticulous and labored. Ultimately these two aspects of
the works must combine for the artworks to have resonance and depth, just as the
combination of nature and the human experience must find the balance to ensure our
co-existence.
