Ink Work - Large Portraits
Ibrahim
The way areas of this large portrait work as textured abstract marks, but also serve to reference the details of this man's head, is intriguing. Achieved through a process of layering watery ink and then removing it in part, using sponges, brushes, and the side of the hand, the huge scale allows one to see both the abstract textural surface and, upon stepping back, the fully explored profile head. The dense marks on the left give way to a calm, empty space on the right, into which the man confidently gazes.
