Narrative alternatives are suggested by the combinations of 4 of Dürer's etchings in Kenneth Clark's anthology. Three spheres: intellectual, moral and contemplative, are linked to the earlier etching of The Prodigal Son - A runaway who only sought forgiveness when his personal circumstances were so dire that his father's servants' lives looked luscious. I'm interested in our tendency to 'Do the right thing' only when it's in one's own interests.
